Best In-Game Traditions in Sports
1. Milwaukee Brewers Racing Sausages
In the sixth inning, fans are treated to one of the most fun traditions in all of baseball, the famous sausage race since the 1990’s. The competitors are Brat (#1), Polish Sausage (#2), Italian Sausage (#3), Hot Dog (#4), and last but not least Chorizo (#5). Over the years the tradition has become a fan favorite and is a must-see for anyone attending a Brewers game.

5. Wisconsin’s Jump Around
It’s been voted one of the best college traditions, and it starts at the end of the 3rd Quarter, where the student sections ‘race’ on the scoreboard through an animated video. After the sections cheer for their team (and a section wins) House of Payne’s “Jump Around” starts playing, and the entire stadium starts jumping up and down. It’s by far one of the coolest things you’ll see!
6. Green Bay Packers’ Lambeau Leap
The Lambeau Leap is a unique tradition that others try to emulate, but doesn’t hold a candle to the original. First started in 1993 by LeRoy Butler as just a simple celebration, the Lambeau Leap has turned into a long standing tradition all young football players hope to do for themselves one day. If you’re sitting in the end zone, come prepared to catch the players as they leap into your arms in celebration.
7. Detroit Red Wings Octopus Throw
At Red Wings playoff games fans throw octopuses onto the ice to bring the team good luck. The octopus was chosen due to it having eight legs symbolizing the eight wins the Red Wings needed to take home the cup. The tradition dates back to 1952, so join in on it when attending a Red Wings playoff game.
8. Texas A&M’s Midnight Yell
The Midnight Yell kicks off the Aggie game day experience the night before the game. The Friday night before Aggies games the fans get together to practice their yells at the stadium during this distinctly A&M event. If you want to get the full Texas A&M experience than attending The Midnight Yell is a must.
9. Run Down the Hill of Clemson Tigers
Prior to every game the team makes its way around the stadium to the east side where they gather at the top of the hill around Howard’s Rock before running onto the field. Checkout the hill to get a feel for what it is like to be a Clemson player.
10. Ohio State Marching Band -- Dotting the i
One of the most famous sights at an Ohio State is the band’s performance of Script Ohio. The signature moment of this performance occurs when the Sousaphone player dots the “i.” Make sure to take in this amazing spectacle when attending a Buckeyes game.
11. Throwing the Ball Back (Chicago Cubs)
While many fans would love to catch a homerun ball, at Wrigley Field you’ll get pressured into throwing it back if it’s from the opposing team. Fans will start to chant “Throw it back!” and you’ll have to decide what to do!
12. Roll Call (Yankees)
The Bleacher Creatures (see below) take it upon themselves to “roll call” all the Yankees players, until each and every one of them has acknowledged the section. Some players salute, while others just point to the section. The tradition takes place during first inning of every home games and is one of the best things about taking in a game at Yankee Stadium.
13. Duke Blue Devils Fan Heckling
Duke has one of the most famous student sections in college basketball, so you’ll experience one of the best atmospheres out there when attending a Duke basketball game. The Cameron Crazies are known for their taunts and ability to get under opponents’ skin, so come prepared to be heckled if you’re wearing the opposing team’s colors.
14. You’ll Never Walk Alone (Liverpool)
The tune “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, covered by Gerry and the Pacemakers, was such a hit that it continually played at Anfield that it soon became the main song to play every game. Since then it has now become one of the most known taglines and traditions throughout sports, even with the hashtag #YNWA.
15. Chief Osceola And The Planting Of The Spear
Chief Osceola rides onto the field on the back of his trusty steed Renegade and throws a flaming spear into the center of the stadium. The tradition will raise the hairs on the back of your neck and give you the true essence of Florida State football.
