The rivalry between The Citadel and Furman goes back to 1913 and has been contested every year since 1919, with the exception of 1943 through 1945. The The Citadel are one of if not the biggest rival of Furman meaning you want to miss it when the Bulldogs comes to town.

Furman and Wofford have the oldest rivalry in the state of South Carolina, and the two teams even played in the first football game in state history in 1889. Furman offers a visiting tailgate area, The Mall, and the Rugby Field for those of you who want to throw a tailgate party, and also is home to the Thirsty Paladin for fans who just want to grab a drink or bite to eat before the game. The fans also make tailgating at Furman fun as people from all over the area come dressed in purple to cheer on the Paladins. Everywhere you look, you’ll see a sea of purple tents filled with fans drinking, grilling, and carousing before the game.
Finally, if you’re looking for some pregame pageantry, Furman has you covered. The Paladin Walk features performances by the band and cheerleaders as well as the ringing of the Furman Victory Bell. Head on over to Paladin Plaza an hour and 15 minutes before kickoff to see all the pregame festivities.

Thirsty Paladin
The Thirsty Paladin is located on the patio of Timmons Arena and is a fantastic place to grab a drink or bite to eat. The Thirsty Paladin features beer, burgers, and brats, so stop by and fill up before the game.
Paladin Walk
Show the Paladins your support by attending the Paladin Walk. The Paladin Walk takes place an hour and 15 minutes before kickoff at Paladin Plaza and features performances by the band and cheerleaders as well as the ringing of the Furman Victory Bell. You won’t want to miss the Paladin Walk, so make your way to Paladin Plaza before heading into the stadium.

Enjoy the shade tailgating at The Mall provides you as well as the fun atmosphere. The Mall is an excellent place to throw a large tailgate party, so reserve your spot before the game.
Rugby Field Tailgating

In Game
Furman is an amazing place to take in a football game as it features tons of pageantry, great fans, and a gorgeous scenic setting. Before the game even starts you’ll be treated to one of the most exciting intros in the FCS as the Paladins’ live mascot leads the team onto the field on horseback. After the intro, things don’t cool off as the marching band puts on a fantastic show throughout the game.
The intro also does an incredible job of working an already energetic fan base into a frenzy. The fans go wild when the Paladins take the field, and they don’t let up from there. All throughout the game, you’ll hear cheers and chants coming from the stand creating a fantastic in-game atmosphere.
Additionally, you’ll enjoy some beautiful scenery when attending a game at Paladins Stadium. From your seat, you’ll have an excellent view of the mountains, which along with the fall foliage create an idyllic feeling.
