Rival Team: Cal Poly Mustangs

The Battle for the Golden Horseshoe takes place each year between Cal Poly and UC Davis. The two schools first met on the gridiron in 1939. However, the rivalry didn’t officially begin until 2004. The all-time series between these two is tied at 20-20-2 all-time, so come out and cheer on the Aggies as they look to break the tie.


Causeway Classic

Rival Team: Sacramento State Hornets

The Causeway Classic between Sacramento State and UC Davis is one of the biggest game of the year on the Aggies’ calendar. The two California-based rivals have played every year since 1954, and in 1961 the Causeway Carriage trophy was added to the rivalry. You won’t want to miss it when the Hornets and Aggies clash, so make sure to be in attendance when Sacramento State comes to town.

Atmosphere

Tailgating before an Aggies game may be relatively new having taken off in 2010, but that doesn’t mean you won’t find plenty of dedicated tailgaters outside Aggie Stadium. Aggies fans love to tailgate, and the majority of them arrive four hours before the game to kick off the tailgating festivities. Lot 56 and the Aggie Tailgate Field are packed with tailgaters on game days creating a fun game day feeling outside the stadium.

One of the best parts of any Aggies tailgate is the Victory March. Before the game the Aggies football team, Aggie Spirit Squad, Gunrock, and the Cal Aggie Marching Band-uh! parade to the stadium creating quite the sight. You won’t find a better way to get into the game day spirit than the Victory March, so make sure to check it out.

Additionally, if you’re bringing kids to the game, stop by the Aggie Pride Festival and enjoy all the kids’ activities. You’ll also find plenty of food and drinks here, so if you don’t want to set a tailgate party yourself, you can grab a bite to eat here.

Those of you who want to see some of the best tailgates UC Davis has to offer will want to stop by Lot 56. Lot 56 is where a lot of the season ticket holders tailgate making it a great place to meet fellow die-hard Aggies fans.

All throughout the game, you’ll hear UC Davis fans cheering on their team no matter what the score and no section is better at doing so than the Aggie Pack. The Aggie Pack aren’t the only ones who create a great atmosphere inside Aggie Stadium. The Cal Aggie Marching Band-uh! is a big part of games as well. The band’s pre-game and halftime shows are superb, and during the game, they provide a festive atmosphere as well.
